Equine Massage Therapists are animal health professionals who use their knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and massage techniques to improve a horse’s physical well-being.
Massage therapy is beneficial for horses to enhance recovery, relieve tension and stress, and improving the muscle tone. Through a blend of massage techniques, therapists can help animals live comfortably and more content. Every horse is different, so the health benefits will depend on the animal. All massage therapists for horse need to be able to tailor their treatment to the needs of the specific animal.

You’ll need:
experience of working with horses and knowledge of their physiology and behaviours
physical skills such as manual dexterity, mobility and co-ordination, and a good level of fitness
excellent communication skills and enjoy working with animals and people
to be thorough and pay attention to detail
to be able to carry out administrative tasks on a computer or hand-held device
Around 25-30 hours per week, as the work can be physically demanding and may vary to the needs of their clients - weekend or bank holiday work can be required.
Check the horse’s medical history, diet and lifestyle
Identify the client's reasons for wanting massage therapy
Plan a course of treatment
Apply pressure to areas of the horse’s body, manipulate muscles and soft tissues
Give advice to clients about their horse’s wellbeing
Refer to veterinary professionals when required
Create and update client records, assessing progress
Many Equine Massage Therapists work for themselves and travel to provide services at their client’s stables. There may be a significant amount of travelling between different client sites.
