The Land-based & Environment Learner (LBEL) Awards were launched in partnership by leading land-based training & qualification awarding body Lantra, and the representative body for land-based colleges and universities, Landex, in June 2023. For a second year, this exciting Awards scheme will recognise the outstanding talent, successes, and achievements of individual learners from across England and Northern Ireland in the land-based and environment sector.
With the aim of celebrating top candidates and new talent in industries including agriculture and horticulture, forestry, environmental conservation, landscaping, and equine, amongst others, the inaugural awards ceremony was hosted by Countryfile presenter Adam Henson and attended by more than 200 guests.
For the 2024 awards, we will be introducing a new category called Research Student of the Year, where supervisors are encouraged to nominate a student studying a post-graduate level either for a master’s degree or a Doctoral Award.
We welcome entries from employers and providers (colleges, universities, and private training providers) nominating individuals undertaking Land-based and Environment courses (either part-time or full-time) which were on programme in England and Northern Ireland between September 2022 and September 2024.
We will need you to provide some details regarding the nominee, their employer and training Provider, course studied and a reference/supporting statement explaining how the candidate meets the criteria.
The closing date for nominations was 30 June 2024 and is now closed.
An independent review panel will judge all the entries, before interviewing the short-listed nominees. Then on 21 November 2024, we will announce the winners at our high-profile awards ceremony.
In my various roles, I’m lucky enough to encounter some amazing young people who are passionate about their jobs and are a complete inspiration. Tonight was no exception. The level of enthusiasm, professionalism and passion, blew me away – a big well done to everyone

Having the opportunity to celebrate with my peers and demonstrate to the industry professionals in the audience that the future of the sector is good hands, has been invaluable.
