The minimum age to undertake this course is 16.

 

The assessment is recognised by the NACFT, Map of Ag and all relevant bodies to be of a high standard and allows the trimmer to be registered with the NACFT and accredited as external trimers with Map of Agri, Milk Buyers and Farm Assurance.

The finer details

The Assessment has 2 parts:

THEORY: Candidates complete Multiple Choice Questions on cattle foot trimming and hoof care.PRACTICAL: Candidates have their trimming skills assessed whilst they trim live cows.  Their skill and outcome are evaluated.

Who should attend?

The assessment is for those wishing to undertake all on farm trimming and be recognised by relevant bodies, NACFT, Map of Agri, Milk Buyers and Farm Assurance.Trimmers who have undergone the foundational training of the Professional Foot Trimming course and CPD Check days.

Trim Safely

Trim Well balanced feet

Trim Lame cows - identify lesions, effects and a cure. 

 

Including:

  • Restore the balance and shape of the cow’s foot and trim to correct lameness
  • Correct use of the technique of functional and corrective claw trimming
  • Correct choice and use of appropriate tools
  • Knowledge and practical application of the 5 Step Dutch Method of Foot Trimming
  • Appropriate management of lesions
  • Biosecurity and disease prevention
