About

This course has been developed to assist persons involved in stewarding events who do not hold SIA qualifications. There are an increasing number of events where volunteer stewards are used to good effect. This training is designed to develop the knowledge of those persons involved, to increase the safety of events. 

The finer details

The course is broken down into the following areas: 

  1. The role and supporting legislation for an Event Steward. 

  1. Awareness of the Code of Conduct required from an Event Steward. 

  1. Demonstrating the use of event radios. 

  1. Recognising the skills and importance of effective communication. 

  1. Identifying the need for Risk Assessment and monitoring crowd movement at an event. 

  1. Understanding crowd capacities, crowd densities and associated behaviours. 

  1. Outline initial action(s) when dealing with an incident.

Who should attend?

Persons who assist with crowd movement at an event, including access, egress, and circulation.  

Persons who manage crowd movement or crowds gathering in an event space including dealing with crowds during an incident or implementation of contingency plans. 

What will be covered?

Objectives: 

 

  1. Outline the role of a steward at an event and the associated guidance and legislation. 

  1. Be aware of the Stewards Code of Conduct 

  1. Demonstrate correct radio protocols to be used during an event. 

  1. Recognise the importance of effective communication. 

  1. Identify the need to risk assess and monitor crowds. 

  1. Be aware of crowd capacity, crowd density and associated behaviours. 

  1. Outline initial action(s) when dealing with an incident.
