This 2-day training programme combines theory and practical training to ensure the learner has a full understanding of surveying a site, capturing the correct information from a site, the importance of setting-out a site correctly and how to prepare a site for the construction of a landscaping project.

Who should attend?

This course is suited to both those who are new to the industry and those who have some experience in the landscape industry. The course would be suitable for contractors, and garden designers looking to gain in-depth knowledge on the site preparation required for landscape projects. 

What will be covered?

The attendee will gain:

  • An understanding of working with clients, designers and contractors and how site surveys can establish working relationships, and aid with accurate pricing and quoting.
  • A comprehensive knowledge of health & safety requirements for site, identifying potential hazards and hidden dangers to ensure the safety of yourself and others.
  • An understanding of potential project considerations required when undertaking a survey to help prevent delays, additional costs and issues when constructing on site.
  • Full understanding of selecting the correct materials, tools and equipment for surveying and site preparation.
  • Full understanding of working with measurements, scales, levels, gradients, site variations and how to overcome difficult obstacles you may find on a site.
  • Understanding how and where to survey to enable smooth and successful project builds including how baselines and offsets are fundamental elements to any landscaping project.
  • Full understanding of assessing and surveying sites including techniques to cover all circumstances
  • Full understanding and competent operation of site survey equipment including the use of traditional techniques, automatic levels (dumpy levels), rotating levels (laser levels) and altimeter levels (zip levels)
  • The ability to produce a competent site survey plan for pricing, and project construction.
  • An understanding of working with setting-out points, datums, baselines and levels to achieve accurate planning and progression of the construction phase including dealing with site features, and regular and irregular forms.
  • Full understanding of calculating areas, volumes and quantities for paving installation
  • Full understanding of excavation requirements in line with industry standards to achieve desired patio or paving finish
  • Full understanding of sub-base construction methods required for landscaping projects to meet industry standards
  • The ability to competently set-out a proposed landscape scheme in preparation for construction
  • Hands-on training throughout the day to provide learners with real-world practical experience that can be utilised when on site
  • Practical assessments throughout to ensure competent understanding
