When working on, near, over or in bodies of water, we encounter many extra risks and hazards, many that we are not always aware of. We often see rivers, lakes and ponds as a benign source of fun and enjoyment and it’s easy to forget the hazards when we’re working around them.

By the end of this course:
- Delegates will have a greater awareness of common hazards and risks associated with working around water.
- Appreciation of the implications of poor biosecurity and how it is enforced by the law.
- Practical knowledge of how to apply biosecurity measures personally, as well as to vehicles and equipment.
- Understand how to dispose of infected waste
- Know what steps to take if pests and diseases are encountered on site.

Who should attend?
This course is aimed at anyone employed or thinks of working in any water-related environment. This can be rivers, lakes, ponds, sewage treatment works or even the sea or estuaries.What will be covered?
- Understand why water safety in the workplace is important
- Learn how to identify the risks and hazards associated with working near bodies of water
- Understand the hierarchy of control and prevention;
- Know what precautions to take to make your worksite safer
- Understand the contributory factors that can increase the risks
- Have an awareness of common water-borne diseases
- Have a better understanding of personal floatation devices and how to select the type most suitable for the task
- Understand some common hazards and remedies when using machinery near or in water.
- Understand the mechanics of drowning, secondary drowning and how the working environment can affect our risk factor
- Have a good understanding of how to conduct a rescue, administer first aid and casualty aftercare
