Who should attend?

This course has been designed to build ecological awareness of personnel working across different sectors and industries. Our everyday working activities can have impacts on the habitats and wildlife around us, and so this course aims to create awareness of what steps need to be taken to allow us to continue with our work with the least impact and in compliance with legislation.

What will be covered?

  • Gain an awareness of protected species and what type of habitats they may be found in, including bats, birds, dormouse, reptile, great crested newt, badger, water vole and otter.
  • Understand how humans fit in our ecosystems.
  • Gain an understating of fossil fuels.
  • Develop an understanding of the legislation afforded to species and habitats.
  • Understand how our working activities can result in impacts to species and habitats and what the repercussion are if done wrong.
  • Gain an understanding of when ecology surveys might be required and when we need to seek advice from an ecologist.
  • Know the importance of hedges and hedgerows.
  • Understand the type of measures required to reduce impacts to wildlife and how we may need to adapt our activities to comply with legislation and best practice.
