Stage 1 – One day Classroom training session – This session will be the main part of the learning for participants and will include theoretical and practical information on how to deploy safely to stop traffic at an event. The training shows participants how to respond to numerous scenarios, including conflict from drivers or an accident/ incident. The training outlines the legislation and support in place for marshals, including risk assessing their role and junction and how to use a radio. All attendees will be required to take a written knowledge check and a practical assessment before being considered as competent for the role.
Stage 2 - This part of the process is designed to ensure continuous development and retention of the skills as an Accredited Marshal. Every student will be required to complete two reflective logs annually to show evidence of practical deployments and continuous learning and competence in the role.

Who should attend?
This training programme is based on a new scheme delivered into Northern Ireland to help with traffic management at events.
With the introduction of new signage into local legislation that allows volunteers and staff to stop traffic at an authorised road-based event.
This training is open to approved staff and volunteers who are delivering events where participants may engage with live traffic that needs to be managed and controlled as the participants pass or use road junctions.

- Outline the role and legislation that supports the role of an Accredited Marshal
- Discuss the Health and Safety requirements for safe deployment at a junction or location.
- Describe how to safely deploy at a junction or location and how to facilitate traffic through that point.
- Demonstrate safe procedures when Stopping Traffic and communicating with drivers.
- Outline initial action(s) when dealing with an accident or incident at a junction.
- Discuss how to deal with potential conflict situations at their point.
- Demonstrate correct radio protocols to be used during an event.
- Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of learning through successful completion of a knowledge check.
