This Lantra-accredited Customised Award is exclusively developed and delivered by a Lantra-approved Training Provider, who meets our quality standards. The minimum age to undertake this course is 21.

 

Created specifically for the sports turf, grounds and estates management sectors and delivered by an experienced Lantra Approved Instructor and Assessor within the specified land based skills group, it provides employers with the ability to meet their statutory obligations under PUWER where provision of competency training is not practicable.

The suitability of this course for your organisation’s needs will be explored in discussion with the course tutor.

Working in a small group setting, participants will learn a range of instructional techniques and how to apply them in the context of selected machinery modules.

They will undertake at least one Lantra Certificate of Competence as part of the course.

Employers can select from the most commonly used grounds maintenance machinery and equipment, including:

  • Tractor Driving (including implements)
  • Combi Tractor Mower
  • Ride-On and/or Pedestrian Mowers
  • Brushcutter/Trimmer
  • Hand Held Hedge Trimmer
  • Leaf Blower
  • Battery Powered Equipment

The finer details

The minimum course outline, based upon the selection of a single machinery module is;

  • Day One – Delivery of Lantra Certificates of Competence training with assessment in the chosen equipment option.
  • Day Two – Instructional techniques
  • Days Three and Four - Instructional techniques delivered in the context of the chosen equipment option(s)

Who should attend?

Managers, supervisors, team leaders and other experienced staff working in sports turf, grounds maintenance and estates management roles. 

What will be covered?

Upon completion of this course, learners will be able to;

Describe legislation relevant to the industry

  • Explain the principles of risk assessment and demonstrate appropriate use in their own practice
  • Understand trainees’ needs in a learning environment
  • Demonstrate effective planning for training courses
  • Explain the importance of record keeping and demonstrate this in their own practice
  • Evidence personal competence in pieces of specified equipment through completion of Lantra assessment observed by the course tutor
