The Country Sports Ireland NI Deer Stalking Training Course is accepted by the Police Service for Northern Ireland as part of the criteria for issuing a firearms certificate to enable possession a deer legal calibre rifle for hunting purposes. The Country Sports Ireland NI Deer Stalking Training Course is also accepted by the Food Standards Agency Northern Ireland as meeting the requirements of EU regulations relating to training of persons who hunt wild game, with a view to placing it on the market for human consumption. Therefore successful learners will be able to supply wild deer carcasses to an Approved Game Handling Establishment. 

The finer details

Every learner receives free access to a unique online training manual upon booking and also attends a two day training course which includes detailed presentations and practical demonstrations, covering all relevant aspects of deer stalking and management of wild deer species in NI. 

 
There are three aspects of assessment:
 
1. Written Assessments – multiple choice written assessments 
2. Shoot Assessment – using a deer legal calibre rifle
3. Safety Assessment – a simulated stalk under supervision of instructor
 
Successful learners will receive a certificate of competence.

- Wish to substantially develop their knowledge of wild deer and deer stalking.
- Intend applying to the PSNI for a firearms certificate to enable possession of a deer legal calibre rifle.
- Intend to supply deer carcasses to an Approved Game Handling Establishment.

Basic deer management
Deer species, identification anatomy, physiology and behaviour
Legislation - firearms, wildlife, animal welfare
Safety
Ballistics and factors contributing to shooting performance
Trained hunter – game meat hygiene rules
Inspection, transportation and storage of carcasses
Identification of notifiable diseases and parasites in deer
