This qualification will enhance your knowledge and confidence, so that you can carry out works in the highway safely, protecting both you and those around you.
The finer details
This qualification has been developed to enhance and assess your skills and knowledge in monitoring excavation in the highway. This qualification forms part of our suite of Street Works Initial certificates.
Training can be provided before assessment, but is not compulsory. The assessment will consist of a question paper and practical assessment. Assessment will cover:
- Location and avoidance of underground apparatus
- Monitoring signing, lighting and guarding
- Monitoring excavation in the highway.
If successful in meeting the required standards assessed, you will be awarded the corresponding qualification (non-regulated) certificates in:
- Street Works Initial - Location and avoidance of underground apparatus
- Street Works Initial - Monitoring signing, lighting and guarding
- Street Works Initial - Monitoring excavation in the highway.
You will also be able to register on the Street Works Qualification Register (SWQR), which is required under the New Roads and Street Works Act.
Recognised by
This qualification is recognised by industry and regularly reviewed by the Highways Authorities and Utilities Committee (HAUK UK). This qualification is not reviewed, recognised and monitored by any UK regulatory body (Ofqual, Scottish Qualifications Authority, Qualifications Wales etc).Course description:
Who should attend?
This certificate is for anyone aged 16+ who is employed in carrying out works in the highway.
Upon successful completion, you’ll be awarded a qualification (non-regulated) certificate in:
- Street Works Initial - Signing, lighting and guarding.
What will be covered?
At the end of this qualification, your practical skills, knowledge and understanding will have been assessed on:
- Location and avoidance of underground apparatus
- Monitoring signing, lighting and guarding
- Monitoring excavation in the highway.
