This course will assess your knowledge and practical ability to install gates and stiles safely, protecting both you and those around you.

The finer details

This assessment course has been developed to assess your knowledge and understanding of gates and stiles installation.

The course duration will depend on the number of Learners requiring assessment and will be from half a day to one day.

The assessment will consist of a multiple choice question paper and practical assessment. Assessment will cover:

  • Types of Gate and Stile
  • How to Install Gates and Stiles.

If successful in meeting the required standards assessed, you will be awarded a certificate of competence and a Lantra skills ID card.

In order to ensure you are given the appropriate information and guidance to work efficiently and safely, you must complete the Fencing and Gate Installation Foundation course (FHW06) before moving on to this system specific course.

Who should attend?

This course is for you if you need to prove your ability in safely installing gates and stiles or renew your Lantra Skills card.

As you'll appreciate, this course contains some practical activity that will require a minimum level of fitness. If you have any concerns, please speak to the Provider.

What will be covered?

At the end of this course, you will be able to:

  • Describe the purpose and components of various types of gates and stiles
  • Describe the materials and installation requirements for gates and stiles
  • Select and prepare tools, equipment and resources for gates and stiles
  • Demonstrate how to calculate the required materials for gates and stiles;
  • Demonstrate how to position and fix posts at specified lines, levels and angles
  • Prepare and install gate and stile components to meet specifications
  • Position and securely fix gate and stile components at specified lines, levels and heights
  • Demonstrate how to inspect, repair and test gates and stiles.
