Chainsaws are powerful and dangerous tools.
It's essential that you keep up to speed with all the latest techniques and guidelines to ensure you stay safe when using them.
Our refresher course will do just that as well as demonstrating that you and your employer have completed sufficient training to meet the Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1998 (PUWER).
It covers chainsaw use and maintenance as well as practical sessions in cross-cutting and felling trees.
The finer details
Our instructors will guide you through a balanced mix of theoretical and practical sessions.
You'll work on a number of appropriate techniques and safety guidelines. Key maintenance issues will be covered.
You'll also go over cross-cutting, handling and stacking timber and basic felling.

- HSE legislation and safety guidelines
- Overview of the chainsaw and maintenance equipment
- Maintaining the saw chain
- Maintaining the guide bar
- Power unit maintenance
- Starting the chainsaw and pre-cutting tests
- Cross-cutting timber
- Assess worksite and prepare trees for felling
- Felling techniques
- Branch removal, snedding and delimbing
- Taking down hung-up trees using hand tools
- Clear working area and equipment checks
Worth noting: Our course involves some physical sessions, so it is essential that you have at least a minimum level of fitness.
