Our course will enable you to prove your knowledge, understanding and competence in a key area of forestry and arboriculture work.
Certification is required for all professional forestry and arboriculture operations.
It's supported by industry good practice guidance, training and certification and is part of the SCQF (Scottish Qualifications and Credit Framework).
Our qualification will confirm your occupational competence and/or licence to practice.
For professional chainsaw operators working in forestry and arboriculture the industry recommendation is that for ’high risk‘ activities the minimum level of adequacy of training is to a certificate of competence or nationally recognised qualification where assessment is carried out independently of the training. This qualification meets this requirement’

Our course has been designed to develop your chainsaw knowledge, understanding and skills.
It involves a balanced mix of theory and practice over 20 hours of learning that will help your career progress.
The course covers everything you need to know to carry out chainsaw maintenance and cross-cutting safely.
All of the course components have been developed in line with industry best practice.
Quality Assurance policies are in place to ensure that all assessments meet the independent assessment requirements for this sector.
Worth noting: To achieve this qualification, you'll need to complete two mandatory units.
They are: Maintenance of chainsaw and cutting system and Cross-cutting timber using a chainsaw.

Who should attend?
The units/Qualifications will enable those who are successful to continue and complete further training and/or assessment within the forestry and arboriculture sector including full-time competency-based qualifications and further specialised qualifications at the same or higher level.
Learners may choose to progress on to forestry and/or arboriculture Scottish Vocational Qualifications (SVQs), an apprenticeship framework and/or Higher National Certificates/Diplomas (HNC/Ds). Certification is required for all professional forestry and arboriculture operations and is supported by industry good practice guidance, ‘training and certification’.
The Qualifications may also enable progression in the workplace.
