Who should attend?

Anyone who is interested in brushing up the core mathematics skills or interested in taking the Fundamentals of Bits and Bitting series of courses, although recommended, this is not a pre-requisite to the Foundation course.

What will be covered?

By the end of the course, you’ll be able to:

  • Describe and identify the direction of forces applied to the horse and their magnitude
  • Define coordinate systems, vectors, forces and perform basic algebra and trigonometry
  • Calculate the distribution of forces through the bridle and perform basic algebraic manipulations
  • Describe the operation of simple machines (pulleys, levers etc.) in the context of the operation of bits and how these affect the horse
  • Confidently tackle problems involving fractions, percentages, forces, and apply your knowledge to using trigonometry, statistics, angles, and coordinate systems.
