We are delighted to announce that Dr David Llewellyn CBE will become Lantra’s new Chair of Trustees from November 2022. Formerly Vice Chancellor of Harper Adams University, David brings a deep knowledge of the workforce and skills challenges that the land-based sector faces if it is to succeed in a fast-changing world.
Welcoming David, Lantra Chief Executive, Marcus Potter said, “I’m thrilled that David has agreed to take on this role. He joins at an exciting time for Lantra, which has come resiliently through the pandemic and has ambitious plans to support workforce skills. David’s experience and insight will be invaluable.”
Dr Llewellyn commented, “The UK faces a challenging labour market, and a volatile economic climate, over the next few years. It is vital that land-based industries can compete to find and retain appropriately skilled and motivated staff. Lantra’s important role supports these objectives enabling land-based industries to contribute fully to national economic development and to help those working in this sector to have fulfilling careers. I am delighted to be taking on the role of Chair of Lantra at such a pivotal time for the industry and I look forward to working with the Lantra team, and the Board of Trustees, in the years ahead.”
David takes over from Heather Peck who is standing down after five years chairing the Lantra Board of Trustees. During that time, she led the modernisation of services, embedded a successful new business model and supported Lantra’s entry into new areas, including apprenticeship End-Point Assessment and Veterinary Nursing qualifications. Having seen the organisation successfully through the upheaval of Covid she leaves Lantra in a strong position for the next stage of its development.
Trustee and Vice-Chair, Richard Clarke, said “We are very grateful for Heather’s fantastic leadership through extraordinary times and thank her for this. The Lantra Trustees are delighted to have attracted somebody with David’s knowledge and skills. We are looking forward to his arrival and to the next exciting stage of Lantra’s development as a leading body in the nationally important land-based sector”.
