My name is Eloise Fenton, I am 29 years old, and currently work at a florist in Glasgow, preparing flower arrangements, making bouquets, serving customers, and delivering flowers.
It gives me the opportunity to be creative and work with beautiful flowers that can bring joy to people, so is rewarding.
I had previously been a medical doctor for four years, but decided on the switch to horticulture as plants are something that I feel passionate about.
I also wanted to do something that offered a combination of both practical and theoretical work within the natural environment and that provided a potential benefit to society by helping communities, the environment, or both!
After my decision to switch career, I started studying horticulture at Glasgow Clyde College, first doing an NC in Horticulture with Horticultural Therapy then an HNC. I really enjoyed both of my years at college and felt that the course was a great entry level introduction to the industry.
In the future I hope to travel and explore new places and opportunities. I would love to use my previous studies to work within a research or conservation field and to further explore the use of horticultural therapy to show others the joy and benefits of plants.
