Apprenticeship Frameworks
A Guide To Apprenticeship Frameworks
What is an Apprenticeship Framework?
Apprenticeship Frameworks in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland set out the requirements which an apprentice needs to learn and achieve during their training. They combine practical work experience with classroom learning, guiding apprentices to gain the skills and qualifications needed for a job in the intended industry.
Why should I use one?
Employers and Training Providers use these Apprenticeship Frameworks to guide the apprentice through their training. The framework sets out the skills and qualifications needed for the intended job and helps employers create a clear plan for the apprentice. It also helps track progress, and ensures apprentices gain the right experience and qualifications.
Apprenticeship Frameworks in England have changed
Completing and certifying Apprenticeship Frameworks by 31st March 2025
As per UK Government guidelines, Training Providers with learners on Apprenticeship Frameworks must:
- Inform employers and apprentices that certificates will not be issued after 31 March 2025.
- Withdraw learners who won’t complete by this date.
If learning can't be finished, Providers should discuss options with the employer and apprentice, to see if a suitable apprenticeship standard is available, following funding rules, including recognising prior learning and minimum duration. Guidance on finding apprenticeship standards is available.

A Quick Guide to Apprenticeship Frameworks
Apprenticeships across Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland allow learners to gain the hands-on experience and knowledge required to work safely and competently in the land-based sector. The apprentice develops their skills and knowledge through a package of learning at work and off-the-job learning by means of a partnership between the apprentice, employer and training provider.
Lantra is a contracted delivery partner for the development and maintenance of Apprenticeship Frameworks, working with land-based stakeholders to ensure they are relevant and fit for purpose.
