Apprenticeships

Apprenticeships are government-backed training schemes aimed primarily at people aged between 16-24. They offer the best of both worlds: you can learn a trade whilst getting paid for your work.

An Apprenticeship is a structured programme of learning based on 'frameworks' developed by Lantra in partnership with employers from land-based industries. This ensures that apprentices develop the skills and knowledge required for their chosen career.

In Wales there are two levels of apprenticeship: the Foundation Modern Apprenticeship and the Modern Apprenticeship.

A Foundation Modern Apprenticeship (FMA) is suitable for an individual with the ability to achieve a National Vocational Qualification (NVQ) level 2.

Modern Apprenticeships build on the FMA to prepare you to become a technician, supervisor or manager. There are two entry routes to Advanced Apprenticeships. You can either have completed an Apprenticeship, or if you have the relevant skills and experience, you can enter an Advanced Apprenticeship directly.
