Foundation Degrees

So what is a Foundation Degree? A Foundation Degree is:

  • A work-based learning Degree designed and delivered by colleges, universities and other training institutions in partnership with employers

  • A combination of academic and work-based learning, developing the skills, knowledge and understanding relevant to your employment

  • A route to enhance your future prospects and progression at work.

Foundation Degrees are level 5 qualifications awarded by universities, equivalent to the first two years of a full-time degree and can provide progression to the final year of an honours degree. They provide an alternative to HNDs and to traditional undergraduate study. They are available to people in work, people who want to progress their careers and those who have completed level 3 qualifications, such as an Apprenticeship.

There are lots of Foundation Degrees available in the environmental and land-based sector such as:

  • Agriculture

  • Amenity horticulture

  • Animal management

  • Animal science

  • Conservation and environment

  • Garden design

  • Marine aquaculture

  • Sustainability and environmental management

  • Veterinary nursing.

The Employer Based Training Accreditation (EBTA) Service

The Employer Based Training Accreditation (EBTA) Service is co-ordinated by 'Foundation Degree forward' and is working to give employers the opportunity to get the training they provide at level 5 and above recognised by Higher Education for credits and/or awards.

Employer Based Training Accreditation

Employer Based Training Accreditation (EBTA) is about finding ways to make the impact of in-house training clearer. EBTA works with businesses to establish whether their internal training can be accredited by a university. It also supports employers who want to further develop their training and build towards formal national qualifications at this higher level.

To find out more about how EBTA can benefit your business, visit www.ebtafdf.co.uk or contact the 'Foundation Degree forward' Enquiry Line on: 01543 301150 or by emailing the EBTA team at ebta@fdf.
