New Health & Safety, Forestry and First Aid Technical Awards coming soon!

Lantra is delighted to announce a brand new range of Health & Safety and +F (Forestry) First Aid technical awards set to launch this March.

Below is a brief overview of the new technical awards and some of the areas they cover:

Health & Safety
•    Technical awards are available for five specific industries - agriculture and horticulture, construction (CSCS route), fencing (CSCS route), forestry and working at height
•    Technical award available without specific industry focus - Health & Safety for the Workplace. By default this course offers a practical, wide-ranging overview of workplace health and safety for UK employers and employees yet can also be contextualised to meet real-world requirements of specific groups and/or employers.

First Aid +F
•    Meets Forestry Commission requirements for land-based workers
•    Can be combined with Lantra Awards Emergency First Aid at Work or First Aid at Work technical awards
•    Can be taken as a separate standalone technical award.

•    Further information to follow about Lantra’s revised range of accredited qualifications for both Health & Safety and First Aid.

The importance of proper health and safety and the personal and financial consequences of inadequate training have been highlighted by a recent incident at Guildford College of Further Education. Two students were observing an estates manager felling a tree when the falling tree hit one of the students, causing fractures to his legs. A subsequent investigation by the HSE found that there was insufficient training given to fell the tree competently. There was also inadequate supervision, whilst risk assessments were substandard and had not been followed. The College pleaded guilty to breaching Sections 2(1) and 3(1) of the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974, and was fined £70,000 and ordered to pay £3,461 costs. More information about the incident and the HSE's findings can be found on their website.
