Skills issues facing land-based engineering - 24 September 2008
Land-based engineering holds a prominent position in Northern Ireland in terms of the number of businesses and industries associated with the sector; however, it is currently following in the footsteps of agriculture and therefore not growing. Despite this contract, a major skills shortage is dientified within the industry.
Lantra secures funding to address the needs of the Environmental sector - 16 September 2008
Conservation organisations are often at the forefront of offering real work experience to graduates from a range of environmental disciplines, however, many voluntary organisations are reporting a difficulty in recruiting staff for specific paid posts, finding themselves a temporary training ground for workers. Lantra has recently secured funding to address these issues.
Apprenticeships open to all - 20 August 2008
An apprenticeship is a work-based training programme aimed primarily at those starting out in their careers. As of 1st September 2008 apprenticeships will become available to people of any age on a full framework basis, thus making apprenticeships more accessible to everyone, with greater funding opportunities.
