Learning Zone at the Royal Welsh Show 2008

The sector is vital to our economy; tourism associated to the Welsh environment amounted to £821million and supports 23,600 jobs. As well as this, another 117,000 jobs are required to manage our natural environment in Wales.

Lantra is bringing together training providers, as well as Further and Higher Education Establishments to create our first ever Learning Zone at this years Royal Welsh Show.

The Learning Zone will demonstrate how we can all work together cohesively and effectively to develop peoples skills, encouraging people into, and to remain within the sector.

The Royal Welsh Show is held on the Royal Welsh Showground in Llanelwedd, Builth Wells 21st -24th July 2008.

Farming Connect Funding Success

"Lantra are delighted with the level of support offered towards training for farmers and growers in Wales, through the Farming Connect programme" says Richard Thomas. "In testimony to this, over 4,000 course places have currently received support, demonstrating the commitment of the industry to keep their skills up to date".

Farming Connect was supported by the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development, delivered by the Welsh Assembly Government and partners including the Forestry Commission, Countryside Council for Wales, Environment Agency Wales and Welsh Local Government Association..

Funding support towards training under this phase of Farming Connect ended on the 31st May 2008.

For queries relating to skills development after this date, please contact the Farming Connect Service Centre on 08456 000813 who will be able to advise on how to proceed. Information on Farming Connect services will be available via the Gwlad publication issued to all holdings in Wales.
