Funding is available from the Scottish Government under the Scotland Rural Development Programme (SRDP) Land Management Options (LMO) scheme. The LMO scheme provides up to £200 towards the costs of training under the Skills Development option. Any land manager with land in Scotland including farmers, crofters and foresters can apply. To take part in the LMO scheme you must be registered with the Scottish Government's Integrated Administration and Control System (IACS) and have a business reference number (BRN). An application form together with Notes and Guidance are issued around March each year. In addition to the LMO application form, all participants with land-based activity must submit a Single Application Form (SAF). Details can be found on the Scottish Government website, under the topics of ‘Farming and Rural Issues’, and then under ‘Scotland Rural Development Programme (SRDP)’.

Funding can also be gained from ILA Scotland, a Scottish Government scheme that helps pay for learning for people aged 16 and over who have an income of £22,000 a year or less, or who are on benefits. There are two types of account available: up to £200 for learning something new or brushing up skills, or up to £500 towards the cost of learning if you are studying a part-time higher education or professional qualification course such as a Higher National Certificate (HNC), Higher National Diploma (HND) or a Degree. Applicants can only have one type of account. If you need any further information call the ILA helpline advisers on 0808 100 1090 or access the website at www.ilascotland.org.uk
