The LandSkills Yorkshire and Humber Programme is part of the Rural Development Programme for England (RDPE). LandSkills Yorkshire and Humber is managed by Lantra on behalf of Yorkshire Forward and is jointly funded by the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development and DEFRA.
LandSkills brings a new focus on skills and knowledge transfer for farming, forestry and production horticulture businesses. The sectors where businesses will be eligible are:
- Livestock - beef, sheep and dairy
- Other Livestock - pigs and poultry
- Arable and Non Food Crops
- Production Horticulture
- Forestry
- Food - in relation to supply chain activity.
The programme targets owners, directors and managers in order to improve their business competitiveness. The Industry Advisory Board steers the programme, commissions training activity and champions the programme within their industry sectors.
The funding provided is being used to develop skills in:
- Practical and technical livestock, crop and non-food crop husbandry
- Management and business, including collaboration
- Resource use, including waste reduction & management, water use, energy efficiency and bio-energy
- Animal health and welfare
- Supply chain efficiency
- Benchmarking
- Climate change adaptation and mitigation
- Environmental land management topics
- Training for primary processing in the agricultural and forestry sectors
- ICT and the use of other new technology specific to agriculture and forestry
