Growing Awareness

London is a green city. Over half of the city’s land area is covered in green spaces - an estimated 960 sq kilometres (370 sq miles).

This includes parklands, wooded areas such as Epping Forest, sports fields and the farm land that skirts the city’s outer limits. More than a third of London’s green space is made up of private domestic gardens which also contain two thirds of London’s trees.

Growing Awareness

This is a sector that will only grow in importance as the city prepares to host the London 2012 Games. London is about to begin construction on the largest urban park in Europe in over 150 years; the Olympic Park will provide London’s horticulture and landscaping businesses with an unparalleled opportunity to showcase its world class skills and production standards.

In addition, a vibrant, profitable and diverse horticulture and landscaping industry will be an essential factor in delivering the Mayor’s environmental strategies and trees and timber framework for London.
