Skills Ambassadors

The Lantra Skills Ambassador Programme has been developed to harness the drive and enthusiasm of individuals to help boost skills levels throughout the UK environmental and land-based sector.

The programme supports those leaders and thinkers who understand the business case for skills and Lantra’s role in supporting this. It is designed to help Lantra achieve its vision for world class environmental and land-based industries across the UK.

Skills ambassadors endorse and communicate Lantra’s key messages about skills and business development clearly to those people that matter:

  • their peers - business owners, employers and individuals who work in the sector

  • potential new entrants

  • other key stakeholders such as MPs and funding agencies.

The programme is flexible to ensure activities undertaken by a skills ambassador match their own interests, skills, knowledge and personal aspirations for the role.

Skills ambassadors are known and respected within their local area, or in a broader sector-wide role. They have a good industry track record and are examples of good practice, integrating skills and business development and encouraging new entrants to the sector.

Skills ambassadors use available networks to promote the benefits of training and development to a wider audience that Lantra alone cannot reach. This could be at meetings with other business owners in the area/industry, or a club or membership organisation.

Ambassadors volunteer to undertake at least three agreed activities per year, which are taken from two themes:

  1. Engaging individuals and businesses in skills development and improving business performance

  2. Raising the profile of the industry

Examples of activities include:

  • Delivering presentations, talks and slide shows to groups of employers at meetings or conferences

  • Attending careers events or giving careers talks

  • Organising open days or visits to your business to promote good practice

  • Writing articles for the press and media and providing quotes to include in press releases

  • Working with Lantra to lobby MPs/AMs/MSPs and Ministers.
