About us

Lantra is the Sector Skills Council for environmental and land-based industries and works with 17 industries across the whole of the United Kingdom.

 

Everyone working within these industries, which can be grouped into either land-management and production, animal health and welfare, or environmental industries, plays a hugely important role in the economy.  The sector influences the lives of everyone living in the UK today and is contributing to the solutions of worldwide issues: food security, fuel efficiency and climate change.   

 

As a Sector Skills Council, Lantra is passionate about helping people working in the sector to have the right skills and knowledge to carry out their jobs safely and effectively, and for businesses to have a workforce that can enhance productivity and performance.

Lantra’s new Sector Skills Council (SSC) remit

UK governments are currently relicensing all SSCs who are being asked to deliver upon a slightly altered remit.  This being to:

• Raise employer engagement, demand and investment in skills

• Ensure authoritative labour market information specific to the sector

• Develop National Occupational Standards and ensure qualifications meet the needs of employers.

 

In addition to delivering this new remit, Lantra will also:

• Influence government policies and investment decisions as advised by the sector

• Support individuals entering or progressing in employment

• Influence and shape learning provision so that it meets the needs of employers and learners alike.

 

Lantra helps businesses improve their performance by:

• Helping them identify, develop and fully utilise business-critical skills

• Managing national and regional projects which enable them to access funding and business support

• Providing a wide range of products and services which support skills development and business development

• Influencing and shaping learning provision to ensure that it meets their needs

• Influencing government policies and shaping public investment in skills and business development.

 

  

Lantra supports individuals by:

• Helping them assess their learning needs, record their achievements and access learning so that they remain economically active

• Helping potential entrants make informed career decisions, undertake nationally recognised qualifications and progress into employment

• Developing National Occupational Standards, vocational qualifications and learning programmes which support entry into employment and career progression

• Undertaking research into current and future skills needs which supports an evidence-based approach to policy and public investment in learning and development.

 

 

 

Lantra is licensed by the UK governments as one of 25 Sector Skills Councils, to identify and tackle skills gaps for each sector.

 

Lantra Awards

Part of the Lantra Group of companies is Lantra Awards which specialises in qualifications and training for people in the land-based sector through a network of local approved centres and training providers, and has more than 30 years experience in this field.

 

Lantra Awards is an approved NVQ/SVQ and VQ awarding body.  It incorporates the former National Fencing Training Authority and its training and qualifications in fencing means that it also works closely with the highways industry.

 

Lantra Awards is one of a number of awarding bodies servicing the environmental and land-based sector.
